Welcome back to the blog everyone! Hope you are all well.
Things are finally looking up for the Australian weather. I can never remember what I wrote in the last blogs, I really think I need to read them before I do these new ones but anyway I will go from where I think I left you last time.
Last time I did this we were in Mission Beach and the weather was rubbish. Well it really was, we ended up being stuck there for about a week as literally the roads were blocked off both North and South and so we had no choice but to stick it out. However as you can see from some of the pics, alcohol flowed and the fun began! Stupid beards were drawn (in my case) shaved and we drank into the cyclone! Mission Beach although tiny ended up being a good laugh purely because the group of people we were with were up for a laugh and so despite the weather we enjoyed ourselves.
Eventually the rain did ease up and we made our attempt to escape from Alcatrase! If any one watches Prison Break it took more time to organise but slightly less tattoos! Anyway we were informed the roads were open we packed up and headed off to Wilma! (This is the name we have given our van). Along the way we picked up 3 stragglers from Manchester who despite being Man City fans were actually nice people. We worked out that they were on the same boat as us and so we offered a lift making the petrol a whole lot cheaper, (and Ange and Austin for not other reasons. Favours were not offered for lifts!!). Anyway we made the 7 hour journey to Airlie Beach in well about 7 hours strangely. Wilma purred all the way...well screamed actually, we had a problem with the gears and the weight! It's not good when the top speed is 100kmh but you need to go to 105 to change gear. What insued was 7 hours of driving at 100kmh doing 4000 revs. A lot of fun!
Eventually we arrived in Airlie Beach and we arrived to civilisation. After being stuck in Mission Beach wondering if we would ever leave i cannot explain the feeling this brings to see more than one pub and shop! As in true fashion we found a place to stay and went straight out on the piss!
Day 3 in Airlie Beach meant our sailing trip was upon us and were in store for 3 days and 2 nights of fun in the sun at sea! We got to our boat having sorted out enough clothes to take in the little bags we were allowed and set upon settling into our doorms. Of course as with everything there is always someone who doesn't read the do's and don'ts and these my friends did it in stlye. Not only did they bring the biggest bags you've ever seen, they also brought all there drink in glass bottles! However they did not spoil our fun and I have to say that sailing the Whitsundays was one of the best things I have done on travels. The crew were excellent and the views and beaches we saw were breathtaking. We also go to see some fantastic views snorkling. However I think the highlight was sitting under the stars out at sea watching lightning in the sky hundreds of miles away. A site I will not forget.
Well my friends that brings you up to date. We are setting off on a massive drive tomorrow to go to Hervey Bay where we will be doing Fraiser Island. Should be a good laugh and will be stopping off at Bundaberg on the way (Home of Aussie Rum).
I hope you are all well back home and we will speak to you all soon.
Love Ash and Chris
