Well its the 27th of December and our Christmas festivities are coming to an end but thats ok because new year is round the corner. It was very different spending Christmas day in a hot climate such as Australia but it was a good experience. We woke up to bright sunshine and 33 degreee temperatures (which was good because Christmas Eve and the day before it was tipping it down!). The hostel had organised a trip to Coogee Beach so we followed with the others from the hostel. It was a good day out, we just chilled on the beach all day went in the sea and did some body surfing because the waves were pretty big. The water was freezing though, not like Thailand! The Aussies were loving the Christmas day, they'd all brought massive BBQ's to the beach with massive cool boxes full of food and beer, loving it. There was even a guy on a jetski dressed as Father Christmas which was pretty cool.
Christmas day evening was pretty quiet really, we were expecting to go out and have e few beers but all the bars were shut! Disgrace, many disgruntled backpackers! We had been out the previous night though and got pretty wasted, we went to Scruffy Murphies and watched a Green Day cover act, it was a 24 hour pub awesome! Our room mate 'Massa' from Japan came along too.
So after a pretty quiet Christmas day we had a pretty mad boxing day but its probably the best boxing day I've had. The hostel had organsied a trip to Royal Randwick races so we tagged along and loved it. All the Aussies were dressed up in their sunday best and then there was us lot sticking out like a sore thumb! There were eight races and I betted on 4 of them unfortunately none of them came through, apart from in the last race! We all put our money together (we being, me, G'bo, Leeroy and Tim, another guy we met from our hostel) and put it on a horse called 'Typhoon Zed', it came second! Get in! We won 43 dollars. We went to the bar and bought the cheapest bottle of champagne they had but pretended we'd won loads and everyone kept on coming over and congratulating us! Quality, definately reccommend the races on boxing day!. After the races we headed into town for a few more beers and it turned out to be a class night, it was our Swiss roommates birthday too so he came out aswell. I'm feeling a little worse for wear now but it was worth it!
HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!
