Well this is the day that we fly home to Darlington but before that we have most of the day in Boston then a night flight getting into London about 8am I think and Newcastle for about 1130am. It's going to be a long, long tiring day but to be honest I'm ready for home, been away long enough and living out of suitcases is hard work.
Breakfast was the first order of the day and that turned out to be a bit if an epic, it took forever to get served and the food on the table. I had even asked for toast and we are still waiting for that, luckily we weren't charged for it! Not an auspicious start to the day.
Back to the room to get packed and checked out before 11am, it was now 1015am, yikes. Ha ha we made it was a good couple of minutes to spare, easy peasy, I always work better under pressure.
After this Anne again needed to go shopping, this time for chocolate!! What can I say, we tried to get a taxi to the shopping centre but the 'helpful' taxi driver told us it was only a 10 minute walk( not enough money in it for him)! We duly plodded off, little did I know it was going to be something of a plodding day. We arrived probably outside the eta but close enough and shopping commenced. We found the right shop entered and set up camp!! I hadn't realised the effect that a few bits of chocolate can have on Anne. She became incapable of coherent thought or any form of decision making. All she did was wander round the shop open mouthed and drooling, not a pretty sight and all I could do was wait impatiently. Eventually Anne made the decisions on which items to purchase and I handed over another months wages!!
Having spent time shopping Anne now wanted to go and see the HQ of the Church of Christian Science, they have a lake there that when the water is still and there is someone walking on the other side it looks like they are walking on water. Unluckily for us the water wasn't still so no one was walking on water anyway I'd have been surprised to see Uncle Neil there! Having had our fill of not walking on water we walked back to the hotel and then onto Boston Common which is pretty much a number of parks, one of which has the famous Swan Boats in it. These are basically large pedalo's. You get on one together with about another 8 people then a guy sits at the back 'hidden' by the swan head and body and pedals you round the lake. Apparently having a ride on one is a must do when visiting Boston, pity it was a must miss for us. We spent some time in the park and then moved on to yet another Starbucks, what would I have done without them? For a drink and some free web time. Then back to the park we went once again, as you may have realised we were pretty much just trying to pass the time. We had not been in the park long when it started to spot with rain so we headed back to the hotel to collect our cases and go to the airport.
The cases were retrieved, for a price, and we got ourselves a taxi, this time with a part Jordanian, English driver who wanted to chat with Anne. They both seemed to enjoy the chat about Manchester and Jordan, I kept out of it as I didn't really have anything constructive to say. Once at the airport we checked in our luggage as we had already done the on line check in so the process was very quick. The problem was of course that we had a long time to wait for the flight but we managed to pass most of the time in, surprise, surprise, Starbucks. Eventually the flight was called and we boarded quickly as being sat at the back of the plane we were called first for cattle class once the first, business class had all boarded. As usual there were people trying to sneak on before their seat number was called but the staff were very much on the ball and stopped them in their tracks. Personally I wanted to cheer but I managed to restrain myself albeit with some difficulty.
The flight was fine as far as it can be in my world. We arrived safely which to me when flying is a bonus! Neither Anne or I slept during the flight, me because I was busy writing my blogs and Anne as she was watching movies. Arrival in Heathrow was about on time although it took an hour from leaving the plane to getting through security etc. Anne was not a happy pasty seeing it all as a waste of time, me a necessary evil. At this moment we are again in a coffee shop waiting for our flight up to Newcastle. We passed the time as usual in a coffee shop with periodic visits to the toilets. I have to say that the toilets in terminal 5 are very nice, clean, tidy and spacious, a treat to use!
Eventually our flight was called and we boarded, the plane was at best only half full so no jostling for position on this one, it was all very calm and polite, back in good old Blighty! The flight was very quick 45 minutes hardly time for coffee and a breakfast bun before we landed smoothly at Newcastle into some very warm, sunny weather. Having retrieved our cases and talked to Jenny on the phone to ensure she was there to pick us up we 'escaped' the terminal and found ourselves whisked away by Jenny and Alan. I thought I'd sleep in the car, so I let Jenny drive, but no we talked about the holiday all the way home and then for the best part of an hour at home while we had a coffee, so to Alan and Jenny for boring them to death. Shame we will do it again when we sort out the photographs!!
The rest of the day was spent sorting out cases, washing, catching up on TV programmed we had missed and trying to stay awake, we were both knackered( to put not too fine a point on things). By 6pm I'd made a lovely tea of baked beans on toast, with extra toast and then by 7pm I was in bed. Don't actually remember Anne coming to bed but I assume it was shortly after me, I remember her saying something about washing but that's it, all a little hazy. I have to say I slept like a baby ( woke up to find I'd filled my nappy), no, just a joke. I feel okay now at 7.50am but we shall see how long it lasts.
Well that's it, the end of the holiday, we have had a great time, seen lots of things, met new people, done different stuff, learnt things I didn't know and remembered things I thought I'd forgotten. We have also tasted new food and drink such as soft shelled crabs and blueberry flavoured beer, all in all a great time. I also must say what a joy it has been to write my blog on a daily basis and through it allow you my friends, family and work colleagues to in some small way participate and get a taste for what we were experiencing. I just hope that you have enjoyed reading the blogs as much as I have done in writing them. So it is with sorrow that I must lay down my finger and cease banging the keys! (sounds like I'm back in Provincetown)!! Oh by the way I did feel tired from about 10am this morning.
That's, that's all folks!!
