Ok I promise I'll write up my Inca Trail and Machu Picchu trip just as soon as I get time but for now I just thought I'd let you know my most recent progress. Having returned to Cusco from the Trail, Kim and I got up early and took the bus from Cusco to Puno on Lake Titicaca. This afternoon we booked a tour of the Islands on the Lake which we'll be doing tomorrow (so another early morning). We're then hoping to get the bus down to La Paz through Copacabana.
From there our plans are to travel to Rurrenbaque and into the jungle for 3 or 4 days before returning. I think Kim would quite like to stay in Bolivia on account of it being cheaper than Peru although I'm quite keen to return to Peru to travel up the South Coast before stopping somewhere to do some charity work. We're going to see if there's any charity work in Bolivia whilst we're there but we'll just have to see how things go.
We're starting to have to budget a lot more now having spent a lot of money doing the trail, hang-gliding and travelling. I think we really need to cut down to about $30 a day (to include everything from travel to accomodation and food!)
Anyway, when I get time I will have to write up about our trail exploits. Needless to say, it was amazing. The final day watching the sun rise over Machu Picchu City and the fog just clearing before our very eyes was absolutely stunning, unforgettable and possibly the most amazing thing I've ever seen. It really made me want to go again and definitely made the hard days of hiking worth the slog! (well it wasn't too bad apart from a few hairy moments!)
We're currently sat in an internet cafe overlooking the main street in Puno and there is a huge procession and partying going on this evening (we think it's to do with Halloween and All Saints Day). It has brightened up an otherwise quite drab place though. I'm looking forward to the trip to the Islands tomorrow though - should be a bit more exciting and Peruvian.
Anyway for now, I'll say hasta luego and I'll try to catch up with the journal as soon as I can!
