Tricky has officially arrived in the Golden Triangle! The Four Seasons Tented Elephant Camp is unbelievable.
From the Chiang Rai airport it was an hour car ride to the pier on the Mekong River. Here we were met by our guide and she showed us a map of the area -we were just about ten mins from the golden triangle. We boarded a long tail boat ride to get to the tented camp. The ride along the Mekong River was so breathtaking with the hills of Burma and Laos as a back drop. The river ride was as smooth as glass and Rick and I kept squeezing each others hands because neither of us could believe the beauty. I had tears in my eyes. I just feel so lucky to be experiencing all of this with him.
When we arrived at the camp they had us each bang the gong three times to symbolize our arrival and our hopes for happiness, health, and long life. Our guide greeted us with our map, itinerary, cool towels, and delicious lemongrass infused iced tea.
We would be staying in tent 15 - the elephant tent. Named for it's decor (everything is elephant in design including tusk handles for our door and water k*** ) as well as our view of the watering hole where the elephants bathe each morning.
Our tent is off the hook. It's so plush and is beautifully designed down to every last detail. Words alone cannot do it justice, you need to check out the pics. We were also upgraded to a deluxe tent which means we have a jacuzzi on our terrace. I'm in it now as I write sipping champagne with my hubby.
Today we had lunch at the restaurant (delicious), sat by the pool, and then hiked up to the camp peak. The camp peak provided unbelievable 360 degree views of the golden triangle.
Tonight there are drinks at Burma Bar for sunset and sundowners. This is a daily event and supposedly the sunset overlooking Burma is amazing. Then each night we go to the resorts wine cellar for a cheese and wine tasting to select our wine for dinner. Then dinner.
Tomorrow we have elephant training and trekking from 9-noon. I cannot wait!!!! We then have a bunch of different outings we can select from for the rest of our trip!
I feel like I'm in the game I used to play when I was little, choose your own adventure. This place feels like ours to make of it what we want.
