3 Quick facts we learnt about Madrid;
1. Madrid culture & architecture is a combination of Christianity, Moorish & Judaism
2. Madrid is the only capital city that does not have a river or ocean supply. Instead it uses underground streams from the mountains to the north
3. The metro wins! giving Madrid a great first impression as it took us no time to get from the Airport to our Hostel.
Knowing that we had 4 full days to enjoy Madrid, it allowed us to intimately walk the city and discover the amazing history that lays in the walls.
On our first day we scoped out the west of the city and visited the royal palace, the cathedral and the temple of Diablo (death). To cap off the day we had Paella at a local watering hole that was recommended to us by the local at the hostel we stayed at.
On our second day we focused on the east of the city and Parque de el Estro (the hyde park of Madrid only far more insane). We spend the majority of the day at the park and visited Alfonso the XII's monument and the crystal palace (a palace made of glass).
That night we headed to the Plaza Mayor and followed up on a churro's lead that we were given. Needless to say we located the churro's and made short work of them.
Our third day featured a 3hr city walking tour that explained to us the rich heritage of the city and showed us sites that an ordinary touristico would not see. After the walking tour had ended we went back to the park for some well deserved R&R.
Our last day consisted entirely of going to the park (by this time we had an unhealthy obsession), to spend the day with the geese, ducks & old men going for jogs. It was nice to take in Madrid whilst relaxing in the shade with some peace and quiet.
