9/11 changed the world forever. One change was immediate, most of the world stopped travelling. This meant that the Virgo cruise ship sailing out of Singapore twas hit with a wave of cancellations and as a result cheaper fares were being advertised. As Avan had a birthday on 15th Sept Heather jumped in and grabbed an amazing birthday present. It was a time when we were having serious staff and business difficulties but nothing could compare with the gloom created by 9/11. However we set off determined to enjoy our cruise, not that either of us had ever envisaged ourselves as cruise ship patrons.
We flew into Singapore airport, and could not believe how quiet it was, on previous visits the place was jumping but today we practically had it to ourselves.
When we arrived at the Virgo we were stunned by its size, this ship was 15 floors high, and as we had balcony class tickets we had our own cabin up the top, and as the ticket suggests our own balcony. The ship had 5 international restaurants, a casino, numerous bars, shops, hairdressers, masseuses, a full on theatre and the shows were included in our ticket. We also had a $300 bar tab to swill our way through.
The ship also had a pool and several spas up on the top deck, and one could tune the TV into see who or how many people were in the spa's before heading off from your cabin.
The first night after setting off the ship sailed straight into an amazing pea soup thunder storm. As we were high up on the ship we could not feel the sea however when we looked down we could see massive waves striking the ships side and we seemed to be right in among the lightening. To add to the drama the ship was continually sounding its fog horn and we could hear many ships fog horns sounding in reply. This was a totally different and very exciting start to our holiday.
