Hey all, well FIji internet and phones are not really good but thankfully, the hostel im at just now has free wifi. Sweet! Happy days. I'll bullet point and try and reduce what ive gotta say cause theres a lot and its 12.45am lol.
Flight
- The journey here was smooth and painless. I sat next to a couple of American guys on the first long haul flight and chatted with them for a few hours and then watched movies and on the second long haul flight to FIji I managed to get three empty seats together so I lay out on them and slept for about 5-6 hours. Quite a bit of turbulance though so kept getting woken up to put the belt on.
First day & Night
- I got a free ride to Smugglers Cove, Nadi by feejee experiance as my driver didnt arrive to pick me up from the hostel. Once there, the hostel was really nice. My room was just like a hotel. Ensuite with good shower, towels and toilettries and big double bed, sky tv (crap channels) and a fridge and tea facilities. Good start. First thing I did after putting my bags down was go have my free breakfast and then go on skype with Joe. God I missed him. Was only away for a day and a half and it felt like forever. Was thinking, this is gonna be a challenge. After a cry with him, I showered and went for a sleep as it hit me. The thing that I found the hardest was that everyone was in groups and it was really hard to get talking to anyone so my first night, i was a bit depressed missing everyone and feeling lost.
Second day & night
- I woke up at 4.30am and that was me wide awake after sleeping for what seemed like forever the day before. I watched some of the dvds that Joe had uploaded onto the SD card for me, After chatting on the internet, low and behold the sun shone so I went out and got meself some possible first degree burns on my forehead and shoulders. Looks horrible. But its insane how quickly you burn out here, even with plastering on the lotion.
Third day & Night
- I woke up early and was picked up by the feejee experiance bus. one of the girls that id noticed was also on her own was coming on so i spoke with her. everyone on the bus was really nice. our first stop for the day was Natadola Beach which is meant to be one of the best beaches in the world and it was gorgeous. For about 45 mins it was lovely, and then the heavens opened. We had to go up early to the bbq area where our host was making lunch. Lunch was disgusting. Flies bloody everywhere. You can only imagine me lol. Afterwards, torrential rain started but we had to make a run for it through a Fijian village where we learnt more about their history and culture. I couldn't concentrate on anything but the fact I was soaked to the skin and there was no sunshine to soak it up lol. Nah, it was actually really interesting. Then the boys and a couple of the girls went sandboarding down a steep assed sand dune and got covered in sand cause it was still torrential rain. Got to our hostel and was pissed off to learn it was in bures and there was outside loos and showers which were disgusting. We couldnt take our stuff to the bure cause the rain was so heavy so we just ran for it. Come 7pm it wasnt letting up so we ran again and got soaked. Man I hated this hostel and the weather.
Forth day & Night
I hated every minute of this day. We were meant to be doing a four hour trek in the jungle which we were told was mostly uphill. NIcola and I didnt have any appropriate footwear (and there was no chance i was doing it anyway) so we opted to take the boat ride up. After 45 minutes on a boiling bus waiting, 20 minutes waiting in a random house we were then put in a long boat for the 1.5 hour journey up the river. As soon as we got in the boat it started to rain. When we got to where we needed to meet the others, we had to climb up a steep, muddy hill in our freakin flip flops and wait 2 god damned long hours in the rain sitting on a rubber ring lol. I was miserable, cold and pissed off so when the others arrived there was no way in hell I was getting into the cold water. Quite a few weren't happy cause it was a lot harder than they were led to believe and it was apparently quite dangerous in places. One girl was crying. I'm SO glad I didnt go. Then I was hacked off to learn that the hostel was only 15 minutes away.We arrived at our hostel and it is lovely. I was put on a top bunk bed which was bloody scary getting on and off, especially in the middle of the night. The view is gorgeous and the restraunt and bar is lovely. After showers we went for dinner where loads of tables were put into a square for us all and we all had gorgeous food and cocktails.
Fifth day & Night
I along with Nicola decided to stay here until Monday when the next feejee bus appears. Its really nice here and I'm so glad I decided to stay. I woke up at 7, went for the lovely free breakfast and chatted FREE to Joe, Dad, Mum and Mark on skype which was fab. Then I went out for some sunathing and man was it a scorcher. Id love to know what the temp was but you could feel your skin burning instantly. I constantly had to apply lotion and it seems to have done the trick. Burny bits but not sore... yet. My napper is all burnt still though. Looks horrible. Managed a walk along the beach which was lovely. Was totally secluded. Not a soul about a long it. Tonight, I invited a German girl who's travelling on her own to dinner with us and there was another Swiss guy Daniel on his own so we all had dinner and drinks and had good banter. Good to have that finally lol. Tomorrow I think I might have a full body massage which they do here for only £14 for an hour! How good is that?
Hope you're all good. MIss you all xxx
