Caribbean colours.. Melting into life in the beautiful, beautiful, city of Cartagena after one week on the Caribbean coast with Jean-Philippe.. First stop Palomino, a remote village on the La Guajira coast where we could hear the waves crashing metres from our cabaña..buying fresh langoustines from fishermen on the beach and eating rice cooked in coconut milk..laying in hammocks near the frangipani and hibiscus trees..afternoon tropical rainstorms..paradise at our doorstep..
Next stop Tayrona National Park and after a gruelling couple of hours´ walk through the jungle in thongs with my backpack, we found Don Pedro´s, in the rainforest, ten minutes from Arrecifes beach..with fresh fish for dinner and chocolate and banana loaves straight from the oven for breakfast..
Then in a boat to Islas Rosarios, beautiful coral atolls one hour from the coast of Colombia..diving, snorkelling and swimming in the aqua waters..stay at the magic Playa Blanca for the night..white beaches, cold beer and mango crepes..
Finally Cartagena..the colourful city exuding so much life on its streets.. Vibrant blues, reds..white-washed walls and fresh fruit wagons..bliss..
A local restaurant and a walk home in the pouring rain to cool off..what an incredible week I have just lived..
