Wow..after a slow journey by boat to Isla del Sol from Copacabana (we had two engines but the driver only wanted to use one..is this why I like Bolivia so much?!), we arrived in the little harbour to start our walk across the island.. Fortuitously I had, by chance, met up with Marco, whom I had met in Rurrenabaque a few weeks ago, in the main street of Copacabana the day before and we were both headed to the island the following day.. So, the island is about 9kms long and we set off at 11am in the glaring sun at 4,000m. Yes Dad I was wearing a hat.. Being my first walk uphill at altitude I was quickly reminded of how unfit I am..but the views in all directions of the lake were superb..what an incredible place.. Made the decision as I was walking that I would stay on the island for the night so that I could see the sunset and sunrise..as, afterall, it was the Island of the Sun.. Marco, needing to be back on the mainland for the German v Argentina game the following morning, left that afternoon. So, I was left with one last steep climb with the donkeys (no cars on the island) to get to my little hostel which was perched on a cliff on the east side of the island, awaiting the sunrise..
