So, in the dead of night last night I left my beloved Bolivia.. It still hasn´t quite sunk in and fortunately the landscape and people haven`t changed too much so as to induce withdrawal symptoms and shock.. Marco and I arrived in the city of Arequipa at the ungodly hour of 3.30am..never a brilliant time to be in a bus station in any city, least of all one that has a reputation for ´thieves hiring licensed taxis and luring unsuspecting tourists who are then kidnapped and held for 24 hours whilst their bank accounts are depleted´. Great. Having spoken to a girl in the last few weeks that this happened to (albeit in Ecuador) I was a little reluctant to get a taxi into town. Eventually we found a taxi that looked like the real deal and made our way to the hostel, two blocks from the main square.. I think it is about 3.50 pounds a night.. How I am ever going to return to the UK/Australia and cope with the cost of living, I don´t know.. Richly rewarded when I woke later this morning to see the city in full sunshine, a glorious maze of white cathedrals, monasteries and plazas and cobbled streets.. Making plans to travel by bus to Cabanaconde tomorrow and spend two days trekking in the canyon, 3191m deep.. Over and out.
