Lake Balaton in Hungary is probably the most popular Hungarian holiday destination and in summer Iˇm sure it must be awesome. It wasn´t exactly sunny when we were there but it didn´t put us off visiting the outdoor thermal baths and having a good walk around the lakeside.
Guess what, we had a few problems with the Nadmeister here again but this time we had our very own battery charger (thank goodness for Supermarket Sweep in Vienna) and we managed to get him started and make our way to a petrol station to beg for help. A fantastic little Hungarian man understood my very basic German and escorted us to the Ford garage and even came in to speak to the mechanics on our behalf. My superschlecht German is coming in handy here although it will be a while before I master the specific car terminology. The guys at Ford did an awesome job and Nad was patched up and ready to go after a couple of hours. A new battery was all that was needed apparently...rrrrrrr, didn´t the last guy say it was okay? Anyhoo, now he´s all better and we are bump start free...for now.
The day we left this area, we just had to stop in at the thermal baths in Héviz, it´s a little town near Balaton where we camped. The majority of the baths is outside and itś not really that warm. We went first thing in the morning and it was chilly so the steam effect was at it´s aesthetic best. We lasted all of about 15 minutes out there with the lily pads and the ducks and then ventured inside for some water jets and heat. We must have reduced the average age by half being in there that morning, our sense of rejuvenation was high as we left.
We were going to stop at Pecs but the all-year round campsite was well and truly shut and we couldn´t be hassled with parking rough, it´s just getting too cold now, we need our little Peter Heater on or we freeze. So, we drove north and decided to just keep going to Budapest.
