I absolutely blitzed Buenos Aires on my last day, walked all the way from San Telmo (west of the city) back to Palmero (east of the city), at least a good few miles of walking over 7-8 hours. Was a good way to see the city despite the ache at the end in my muscles, the Antiques market in San Telmo was gorgeous with the most amazing buildings and boutique streets. Watched an artist painting a sunset landscape and absolutely fell in love with the deep purples and reds he used, was very pretty but unfortunately just too big for me to bring back - nice to relax and see the culture of the area; was a beautiful day. Felt the need to indulge slightly as there were so many nice trinkets around on the stalls, so brought a very nice hand-made bracelet J The market runs all the way down Defenser Street (amalgamating at the top of defenser in a little square), so was a pleasant walk through to the end at Plaza de Mayo. Throughout my walk I saw the most gorgeous buildings, the architecture is quite remarkable, of course very modern in area too. Plaza de Mayo was interesting for it's history, very quite though - was able to stand in the middle of the main road running up to the Obelisk (6 lanes) and take photo's and not a car in sight pretty much J After the plaza I walked to the Plaza San Martin to see the United Buddy Bears in all there glory. Can't really explain the wildness of the exhibition so you'll have to check it out at http://www.buddy-baer.com/ essentially the United Buddy Bears are on tour to promote living together in peace and harmony, each bear (140 in total, 2m tall) is painted in a design and colours' representative of it's country. The designs are amazing and so colourful - will upload my photo's soon for you to see J Finished my afternoon at the Recoleta Cemetery which was both interesting and strange - literally a city of the dead, the tombs are so extravagant and absolutely huge - incredibly the money spent on their creation. Didn't like the idea of having a family tomb where you have a stairwell down to the crypt housing generations of the family's bodies. After the cemetery I decided to end my day in a livelier place at Puerto Madero, which is on the water front. Nice to relax on the waterfront and have dinner with a nice glass of Argentinean wine, very enjoyable and a must after blitzing the city J They even had baileys ice-cream which was delicious as well as the almond ice-cream. Definitely needed more time to explore - will be visiting again definitely.
