After an amazing en-route break at Windsor & Eton, the main city was just another hour drive. To be honest when we reached Oxford I was simply staring at the marvellous beauty of this city... No wonder it has left people stuck with awe for centuries as it opened up in 13th century.
Home of World's first university museum and many more wonders I knew I can't cover all aspects and spectacles of city in mere 3-4 hours so I tried to go around with our tour guide in certain places than other part of the city on my own. We started going inside the St. John's Collegedating back to 1437, the College's famous Canterbury Quad is a splendid example of Baroque architecture. It had a big ground behind the building containing the garden. The ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blare is one if the attendee in this college.
We than headed for more centre of the University, going around the Martyrs' Memorial is a stone monument positioned at the intersection of St Giles', Magdalen Street and Beaumont Street, just outside Balliol College, Oxford, England. It commemorates the 16th-century "Oxford Martyrs". We came up to a rather impressive Sheldonian Theatre from round to the World famous and one of the oldest in Europe, Bodleian Library where the big-windowed Infirmary scenes were shot for famous Harry Potter series. Passing it we moved from 'Bridge of Sighs'to renowned Radcliffe Square to view the marvellousRadcliffe Camera part of the Bodleian Library.
We later went ahead to the famous Christchurch College, largest and most visited of all Oxford's Colleges. I plan to go in next time I visit to check out the The Great Hall (the dining hall) which inspired the set of Hogwarts (Harry Potter); dining hall. Actual scenes from the movie were filmed there, and on the grand stars leading to the Hall.
The last hour I've spent in the world's first University museum Ashmolean Museum, going through impressive collection of the collection included antique coins, books, engravings, geological specimens, zoological specimens, Chinese, Japanese cultural artefacts and various other impressive amount of collection. Do check my Album for some of the containing artefacts.
An amazing eye-opening trip for me and will definitely be going back in summer for more and complete sight-seeing of this lovable city that leaves u with an impression of architectural marvel and beauty of the English era back in time.
