Well, What a two days we've just had! We left the Leo hostel about 3.15pm on friday to get to a huge set of office blocks where our friend Terry Ting works who helped us book the train tickets. We knew the way but were too tired to notice the taxi driver was taking us for a ride, so we went the roundabout way there, but only paid about 4 extra Yuan, so we wernt too fussed. However, we didnt know this would just be the start of our troubles. Ill give you the shortest account i can. Beijing West station is a nightmare, bigger than an airport by a long way, and everything is in chinese. Found our platform and got on. It was a 12 hour journey over night so we got ourselves sum bunkbeds (3 high), but were all given lower bunks, on which all the chinese people sit when they arnt sleeping. Theres a crying baby with its rear end out above us, and a "comedian" and his friends sat on our bed. This guy makes one of his chums laugh who sprays iced Green tea from his mouth all over Joes bed, and doesnt even look at us to attempt sorry. Then his mate drops pieces of a huge sausage all over my bed, which is ground into it as he sits on it...once again...not attempt at apology or remorse. So we sit there cramped up on our bed while children walk past shouting and pointing at the nice white people. I continued to get no more than 2 hours sleep over the course of the night, and had to go visit the WC about 3am....a hole in the floor. The less said about that the better. Got a "pick up" from the train stations, which turned out to be a packed bus. Got to the hostel to find people sleeping in our beds (they still havnt left and its 8pm here). Went out to get food, n got ripped off and sent to chicken dished back as if u proded them, they let of a distinct "cock-a-doodle-do!" they were that underdone. THey still tired to charge us, but failed. So yeah, rant over, we are all pretty grumpy but our troubles seem to be over now. Youth hostel is really nice and the food is good so cant complain. Hopefully seeing the terracota warriors tommorrow and maybe getting up early to try some kung fu.
