Traveling Monkey's
- Hello everyone. We know it's been too long since we wrote, but we haven't felt all that interesting lately. I've been working intensive courses for this month, which basically means I get an hour class every morning with kids that would otherwise be enjoying a nice month vacation. They love it. That's in addition to my regular schedule, so I've been busy. Tara has been working on college applications and related issues. That's been more than enough to do, since it's hard to find seven different ways to tell a school that you are A) a good students interested in furthering your education, B) not a deadbeat who will default on loans, and C) not going to steal the ram/owl/dolphin mascot and get it drunk at a toga party. And she hard her fingers crossed when she wrote that last one. Anyways, that's been the majority of the month.Of the few interesting occurrences, the first was when I was asked by our schools president, a woman who never talks to any foreign teacher if possible, if I would be willing to help her son write essays for American private schools. I ended up meeting her husband, who is now in the US with their son, and discussed how I could email back edited drafts of application essays. It's an easy enough job but something they really appreciate. He is the chairman of the online branch of parent company that owns our school and hundreds of others in Korea. I was happy to get in the good graces of someone who could help me significantly while I'm here. I've also been playing drums on the weekends with three other teachers who rent practice space here in Seoul. It's been fun and extended our circle of friends outside my school. We also signed up for the gym here, since working out in 24 degree weather is not an option. That's about it for now. This next month should give us many more opportunities to be adventurous, as I have a long Lunar New Years vacation, during which Tara's parents will be visiting. Tara is then going to Japan with them for a week after they leave. So I'll let her write that update, as mine would read "Played lots of video games. Drank soju. Cried while watching a shampoo comercial." So look forward to that. We would love to hear from everyone so please send us emails if you can. Our contacts are listed somewhere on this site. We miss everyone, but not as much as we miss potatoes and Mexican food.
