Today Pastor Acosta toured us around and we visited the Floating Market just an hour's ride out of Bangkok. It was a pretty cool place. You could rent a boat for an hour, the all you need to do is sit and the merchants will come to you. They had fruits, pastries and even bar-b-qued chicken on a boat floating by. Vendors abound selling their wares and you can hear people with Thai accents calling out "you buy", "miss you want some of this pleese" and seeing plenty of tourist taking pictures. As you round a corner in the canal you might see a simple house in the back with a very ornate Spirit house in front. So many sounds and smells to take it!
After that we visited the Chedi which was about half-way between the Floating Market and the center of Bangkok. There was two large Buddah's in the complex, one was standing and the other was laying on its side. It wasn't just a sight for tourist though, there were monks actually living and working at the complex and various school children were visiting too. Around the main temple you would find various statues of Buddah in different poses.
Lunch was at a food court near our next destination, a Thai cultural show. It was found in a place called the Rose Garden. Which there was a rose garden on the property too but that was secondary to the show. The complex had little huts, elephants and artisans who sell their wares. You can see how Thai silk is made from the silk worms to the final product. IF you want you can ride an elephant and take your picture with him. Then there was the show, which was fantastic! It reminded me a bit like the Polynesian Cultural center show on Oahu but shorter and about the Thai culture instead. When I get to a better internet connection I'll upload the video snippets I took of the show.
For dinner we met up with Pastor's wife, Aunt Esther and their daughter, Jade. They took us to a Sizzler. Yeah I almost felt bad since we had this restaurant in America but I did notice a little difference. The choices in the salad bar included Dragon Fruit (which is so good and high in fiber to help clean out your system ), green mangos, Japanese style salad dressing and plenty of spices. The food was cooked with spices too. We got dropped off at the Skytrain and by now we can navigate it pretty well.
Since we spent most of the day sitting, my cousin and I felt the need to walk around a little bit before going to bed. What a shock to find out we were right near the Red Light District! There were people discreetly handing out fliers for "shows" down the roadway. So when I looked up to see the sign of the road way it read Patpong 1 and Patpong 2. The two streets infamous for their strip shows and "b girls" activities. Needless to say my cousin and I quickly made our way far from that section of the street!! We ended up at a Robinson's Department store looking around and window shopping. Can I tell you how depressing it was for someone like me, who back in the States is considered petite, and then to come here and feel like a blimp? Wow! Talk about tiny, these women are so thin that I can probably break them like a stick. Apparently here Thin is very IN! Wow!
