I finally made it to Bangkok! The flight wasn't so bad and the food they served on this leg of the flight was actually pretty decent. As you land from the plane you can see how large the new Bangkok International Aiport is, but it isn't until you get inside how it hits you just how immense it is! I felt like I walked a mile just trying to get to the immigration line. Then I had wait for over 30 min. just to pass throuhg, by this time my luggage had already been going around the belt for several circles. I had to use some of the breathing techniques they taught us at the PTSD class to calm myself down.
I knew that I would wait about 2 hours before my cousin's plane would arrive but it took her almost an hour to get through immigration. By then I was really going a little bananas, I mean after all when you start talking to your teddy bear just to keep yourself calm, you will get the "crazy woman" look. LOL I think I scared off a few people from sitting next to me that way. Then once we got through customs we did a little bit of walking trying to find our ride, Pastor Acosta. But we found him and we finally made our way out of the airport.
My first impression after getting out of the airport building was "this isn't too bad, the humidity isn't as thick as the Philippines". Then when Pastor Acosta started driving, first of all it was weird for him to be in the "wrong" side but seeing as how they do the British way of driving here he was in the right side. The freeways are like back home but with the ornate pedestrian crossing and occasional statue in the "wai" stance. Traffic is the same here as it is back home during rush hour. Pollution seems to be a problem as there were some buildings just tarnished with the residue of smoke.
We are staying at the Bangkok Christian Guest House. (I'll tell you more about it later!) It is located in the Business area of town. Pastor Acosta dropped us off but then left to try to avoid the traffic so he can pick up his wife and go to their home. After getting a dinner recommendation from the guy at the front desk, my cousin and I wandered around our neighborhood checking out the scenes.
What we found was there are plenty of 7-elevens, the smell of shrimp is everywhere, plenty of school girls in their various uniforms, the sidewalk is where they do business also. But seeing as how they don't really have much space for a slide walk you can get pretty close to people.
Dinner was at a place around the corner form BCGH called Bua. The food was delicious! For about $22 dollars we got a set 5 course meal. There was shrimp egg rolls with a sweet honey sauce, Thai Salad, Soup, Squid and fruits for dessert. While we were eating this Italian from Australia sat next to us, so being me I started a conversation with the guy. Found out he is retired, lives in West Australia, still loyal to his neighborhood of Roma in Italy and he gave us some suggestions on what to do while we're here. My cousin and I didn't really go out since we were both so exhausted from all the traveling. So after dinner we headed back to BCGH to just rest and unpack.
