Well originally I had planned to have dinner in the Center of Town for some paella. The dish that originiated here in Valencia. The hotel tried to get me a reservation at one of the places they use but apparently it is some kind of bank holiday and the restaurants inside the hotels are closed. Also the girl at the front desk mentioned that since I was a table for one it was harder for them to fit me in especially since paella is a dish made for two or more people. That was frustrating to hear!!! I mean I can eat for two after all. So since I've pretty much spent most of the afternoon walking around this neighborhood and seeing what shops are there I knew what kind of food was availabe.
But first there was some business I had to take care off. Mainly my aching feet! There is a large Spainsh department store chain called "El Corte Ingles" which is like a cross of Macy's and Super Walmart but way nicer than both! It reminds me more of Galleries Lafayette in Paris. Anways I went to check out their shoes and let me just say that there are some really cute pointy heels and flats there. So tempting! I ended up getting these cute loafers with a little heal caleld GEOX Respira, apparently the shoes "breath"and is waterproof. It is very light weight but still it needed to be broken in so I walked around before dinner time to break it in. Another great thing about "El Corte Ingles" is that they have a supermarket in the basement. Let me tell you it is nothing like the Superwalmart market! This place has a chocolate section full of gourment stuff, a large wine selection and pastry area. I was like a kid in a candy store all these cool things in Spanish looking so exotic, dude even their shrimp chips looked exotic. The best find of the night for me in the store was Jamon flavored potato chips. I haven't tried it yet since dinner was so good and I'm stuffed like a Jamon But we shall see tomorrow.
Now y'all are just going to laugh at me but since my paella was cancelled I went the opposite way. I had dinner at the Sushi Club. Yeah I know y'all think I'm nuts now and for those who know me well this really shouldn't surprise you. It was kind of funny going into a sushi place where the men were looking like Raphael Nadal and serving you something from Japan. But I didn't order sushi as you can tell. I must say that as soon as I entered the waiter babbled off in Spanish. I did my usual smile, nod and look like I understand. The guy took pity on me and set met down at the table along with some Cafe. It was cold outside and the wind was blowing plus I'd already walked around the block a few times. Of course I couldn't hide too long about not knowing how to speak Spanish. I knew the "gig was up" when the waiter brought me my sparkling water with ice.
Afterall in Europe they don't drink water with ice only the "rude Americans" demand such things. I didn't but I'm sure with just me opening my mouth they knew I wasn't one of them.
Oh well tomorrow I plan to spend my day with the fishes
