Cretia and I met up at 9:00 for breakfast and I loaded myself up with raw and roasted veggies. It was really tasty. Our first stop was to catch services at St. Ciril's Serbian Orthodox Church. Walking up to the church yard, there were dozens of men standing around outside, so I knew the service had already started. Because of Pentecost, we were later informed, there was grass cuttings all over the floor - of which I promptly took and made into a wreath so that our hotel room would be blessed. (Cretia took a video - you can see it in the video section of the blog.)
After a while, we made our way to the Tivoli Gardens and got a drink, then strolled around the rose garden and ponds listening to a band play polka music and Abba covers. We ducked into a pretty great modern art gallery and they had a great collection of Avgust Chernigov and some pretty incredible migrant maps dictated to artists. I think I am going to use this idea in my classes. Heading back towards the hotel we passed by the US and Russian embassies next door to each other - I bet they have some wild parties - and found a lunch place near the river. Cretia won lunch with gnocchi and mushroom sauce. I had some pretty good potato dumplings with a sour cream and onion sauce and a surprising light and refreshing stout.
On the way back to the he hotel we stopped by a Catholic Church (just to hedge our bets) so now we should be fully covered for the trip. After a short nap we headed up to Ljubljana castle and got dinner - champagne, cured trout, sea bass, a couple of glasses of wine, and a stuffed crepe for dessert. Now back and relaxing...
