The biggest impression left on me in the food category of Peru has been their desserts. Desserts aren't something special only eaten after dinner, like in the United States. Desserts are a way of life, eaten two to three times a day. It's for a good reason though. That reason being because they are absolutely fantastic, every single dessert . If you ever visit Peru, these three choices should be on the list of foods needed to be consumed.
Number one, and most important, Chupetes. Frozen milk with cinnamon, sugar, and your choice of fresh ground Coconut (my favorite) , chocolate, and many various fruits. So simple to make, and even better to taste. This was my favorite dessert experienced here, and one that you have to taste before die.
Two, Picharones. Fried pumpkin or sweet potato, covered in honey or pancake syrup. Even writing that last sentence makes me want a plate.
Lastly, you must try the various cakes produced. Sitting in a coffee shop with a selection of twenty different styles of cakes from around the world, but done Peruvian style, is quite overwhelming. I can not count how many cakes I consumed on this trip, and of all different varieties, and I can honestly say I was never disappointed, or never thought for one moment that it was of a fake origin.
Provecho!!!!
