The sun was out, and we went looking for something to do. After inquiring about a few things, renting bikes for the day looked like a great option. Brennin opted for a long-board. ( a long skate-board)
The campground is paved, as well, there are paved bike paths leading to the lake, and alternatively to the town of Biscorrosse. We started out with Mariah not liking her bike. The seat was uncomfortable, so Brennin being a lot like his father, saw a simple solution. He took my big comfortable seat off, put it on her bike, and replaced my seat with hers. Hmm hmmm - what mothers do for their children :). Belia was trying to get her balance, since she just learned to ride before we left for holidays, and hadn't been on a bike for over 3 weeks. At the same time she was itchy, so you can imagine her bike snaking around out of control. Her bike went for a ghost ride when she detected a baby spider on the frame of her bike. The final straw was when she somehow veered towards a water filled ditch, jumping off her bike just before it landed in the water. At this point she was ready to give up, but I could see the lunch spot ahead, and got her going again with some tough love. We ate lunch next to "Root Beer River" - the kids named it that. It was root beer colored because of all the runoff from the recent flooding.
After lunch everyone's mood lifted, and magically Belia's biking skills improved drastically too. She had a big smile, and was very proud of herself. We came across parts of the path that were flooded which added to the fun. Brennin hung on to Tim's bike long boarding through the water.
We found a vendor along the trail, and decided to stop for ice cream and desert crepes. Speaking very little English the 3 people working were embarrassed to tell us they were out of ice cream, and that the lady who normally makes crepes was not there yet. They asked if we could give them 5 minutes to figure it out. No problem - we needed a rest anyway. They took crepe making instructions over a cell phone, and we were not disappointed, the crepes were delicious.
10 minutes further we made it to the lake, had a look around, and then made our way back to the campsite. Brennin and Darius took turns using the long board. Every once in a while Brennin would scoot up behind us, and use our bikes to propel himself . Darius was just learning so he didn't try that, but he did do a few stunt man rolls when the board made unexpected stops because of stones on the path.
Back at the campground the kids went swimming, Brennin trying to keep out of the lifeguards' sight because he was wearing swimming trunks and not speedos, a big no no in France. They even have signs posted with a big x through swimming trunks.
After supper we played triominos. Keycamp has a variety of games that they lend. Triominos is a good one that Belia can play as well.
