We arrived in alice springs early afternoon on 20th sept and went straight to the hostel after a lovely 24hr train journey! There we booked up our tour and coach for the next few days and then set off to investigate. This didnt take too long there are about 3 main-ish streets and 2 little shopping centres. We got some food to cook for dinner and ate at the hostel. We went out for a few quiet drinks in Bojangles (the place to party in Alice) and needless it turned into a good few more. We met a number of locals all of whom were very friendly and welcoming.
The next day was extremely lazy with a little shopping for necessities like me and Nat's 8 quid extremely cool trainers. We then spent a little time by the pool, while andy went to the desert safari park, me and nat decided it would be better not to know about all of the wildlife as we'd be spending the next week a little too close to it all whilst camping!
We had a hostel pick up by Connections Adventures at 6am the next morning and started our 6hr drive to the campsite. We then headed out for a walk on The Olgas before getting teh bus over to Ayers Rock to watch the rock change colour at sunset, it wasnt as impressive as it should have been as it was actually pretty cloudy. That eve we had a bbq at the campsite and then had a few drinks and kept everyone else awake we think (only til about 11, but the boring people all went to bed at 9pm!)
We had a 4.30am start the next day to catch sunrise at the Rock. We then did a walk around the base before visiting the cultural centre. Later that day we headed to Kings Cannon to our campsite. In the evening I did a camel ride before dinner which was cooked over the fire. Dinner was good but took about 3hrs to make so we were all starved! We then had toasted marshmallows on the fire and managed for Night2 to stay up like party animals til 11pm with the tour leader and probably further annoyed everyone else.
Another 4.30am start on Day 3, when we headed out to the cannon to do a walk up and over it. As Steeve our tour leader promised we were the first tour group in an empty carpark, meaning we had a much quieter walk with better views. Kings Cannon is pretty amazing with brilliant views, rock pools and a botanical gardens. By the time we finished the walk at 10am it was getting far too hot to be walking so we headed back to campsite for lunch. Yep we had lunch at about 11am! We're now on a coach back to alice springs as I write a draft of this, where i'm guessing we'll have a really quiet night as another 4.30am start tomorrow for our Dessert Adventures tour to Cairns (3day tour) although our tour leader Steeve is trying to persuade us out with him tonight so we'll see....
