Well yep we gave up and went out for a few drinks well me and Nat did, Andy decided on a slightly heavier session. We left him at midnight figuring we may just get about 4hrs sleep, however we woke up at 4.30am to a text message from Andy saying he loves Alice Springs and that he's staying there a while longer!!!!!! We still havent yet figured out what the magic of Alice is as it was a dead little town in the middle of no where but hopefully we'll hear more once back in civilisation with internet and signal.
So we set off as a pair on our 3day dessert adventure to Cairns 'for people who believe the journey is as important as the destination' (yea i would have rathered the cheaper option of a flight but hey!)
We did see a number of interesting things which the majority of people who come to Oz would miss out on but it was a tiring 3days. Our tour guide Alan was a legend there was nothing he didnt know, and he regularly stopped the bus for us to take photos, he also fed me the best egg-free diet i've had since I left home, and he bought me and Nat drinks!
We tried sleeping on the bus as we had about 4 seats each but Alan would just turn up the music, or slam the brakes on at every photo op (wildlife, signs, sunsets, roadtrains etc) just to keep us all awake and chatting to him. We've seen numerous roadtrains which covered us in dust, wild kangaroos, wallabees, emus, camels, lizards, and amazing sunsets and sunrises.
Yesterday we experienced a wind storm in the desert followed by very heavy rain...Yes we managed to get caught in a full storm with thunder in the desert. Luckily it moved on quickly and although the roads got pretty poor (the majority of these three days has been on dirt roads) 'Girlie' our bus coped well, if it had lasted another 15mins or so we could have been stuck out there for days.
Over the three days we visited working cattle stations and stayed the night on one, eaten around the fire, met many locals and aboriginees, had a drink in oz's smallest pub, been to towns of less than 5people, and did a rainforest walk.
However we're now back in civilisation and theres traffic lights (the first we've seen in 3days) and people...its nice to be back!!
