Today has made me really happy with our choice to bomb it through the south to come to Colorado, second day here we head to the Hanging Lake which is located around 7 miles east from Glenwood Springs.
The lake is reached by trailhead so our first ramble for a few weeks and we were both feeling pretty ready to stretch our legs. A relatively short trail (around 3 miles I think RT) but up, up and more up seemed to be the way it went. The heat was around 30 degrees and with the continuous uphill the heat got to me a little- not Paul, he was charging up of course- also been a bit unwell the last few days but I was not quitting I knew what was up the top, I just had to stop for a granny rest every ten steps, that I did and I made it to the top and the reward was so worth it.
Hanging Lake is here a geologic wonder and is popular with travellers for its awe-inspiring beauty, with clear turquoise lake and the waterfalls that spill into it are a breathtaking sights, We made sure to arrive during the week but it was still really packed- mainly with Asian folk with their boom boxing in the backpacks-, which was the only minor downside, pulling in and waiting along the trailhead, but no real problem.
Behind the lake, we discovered Spouting Rock, a much larger waterfall that flows from a set of holes in the limestone cliffs of Dead Horse Canyon. Missed opportunity of a shower there but thankfully for the sake of everyone's photos we weren't ready with our shower gel.
Hanging Lake exceeded expectation, can't wait to see more of Colorado.
