Trailor on Tour
Hello from the Sunshine Coast, so called due to the 300 days of sunshine they get every year, although the rain has been torrential ever since I arrived yesterday evening, lucky old me.
Yesterday I flew on one of my bargain basement Virgin Blue flights from Melbourne to Proserpine, which was the smallest airport I have ever been to anywhere in the world. When we landed we walked from the tarmac, through a small hut and round to the side where they had dropped all the bags off on trolleys. The strangest baggage reclaim I have ever seen. When I checked my backpack in at Melbourne, I was delighted to find that it only weighed 16kg, as when I flew to Sydney before Christmas it had been a whopping 27kg - the overflow stuff is still at Richard's waiting for my return when it will be sorted.
I then caught the shuttle bus to Airlie Beach and was dropped at the YHA, which is really nice and clean and my dorm is spacious and has only girls in it.
This area is renowned for it's sugar cane farming and was first inhabited as a penal colony in 1824. The Whitsunday Islands are off the coast here, as is the Great Barrier Reef and I'm hoping to see both, although this weather is supposed to last a few days as the result of a cyclone near Cairns, so not sure what to do now! I'll let you know when I do.
