Trailor on Tour
Bula!!!! Hello in Fijian, from our little island. Today we got up late and headed out of Nadi on the local bus to Rakiraki, where we were to transfer to this island. Being the very smart people we are, we decided to save money by travelling on the local transport - hmmmmmmmmmmm - not too sure it was such a good idea. The bus was absolutely rammed full of sweating locals, then we had to change at Lautoka and on this bus they played a Bollywood film at full volume. Next another traveller from England got on and Keren (being far too chatty) decided to befriend him. That is until I said that he bore a remarkable resemblance to Fred West, came from Gloucester and had disgusting teeth, maybe he was Fred's son!!!! He then started holding his hand up and Keren asked me what he was doing, which was pretty obvious to me - he was holding up his camera phone to get a picture of her - she was not happy at the thought of this.
When we arrived in Rakiraki we took a taxi to the wharf and then got a little boat over to the Nananu Lodge, where we were checked into a 16 bed dorm!!! Sixteen sweaty people and no air, not so much as a whisper. After tea we retired to the room and I kept having to go and stand on the balcony, where there was at least some air movement. The only air movement in the dorm was from the rather large chap in the bed in front of mine (we were end to end with his feet near my head) who kept breaking wind very noisily in his sleep and they also reeked - the joy of sharing.
However we did meet a nice guy called Mikhel from Israel/Canada, who we shared a taxi with to the wharf and was glad to have us 2 to keep him company.
We spent the next 3 days at this place, but were moved to a 4 bed dorm, which also had a fan!!!! Keren tried scuba diving for the first time, we woke up on Easter Sunday and had beans and poached eggs on toast - the closest we were getting to an Easter egg. We played lots of cards and had a laugh with Mikhel......oh and drank some wine as a belated birthday celebration for me.
Tomorrow we are heading back to Nadi to try and get to one of the other island groups. S xx
