I am so glad Lisa's here. We biked into town to the Brown cafe on the corner. We talked to the locals and made friends with a family who meets there every Friday night. Very cool! Then, we biked home and tried out our headlight. They are great but they go out the moment you stop peddling and leave you in pitch dark. Try that sometime.
In the morning, Lisa and I took the tain to Aachen It's a really old town on the border with the Netherlands- Mostly known for Charlemain and a great Christmas market. There is a fountain with a Charlemain his scepter and an orb presiding over a market square that has been there for hundreds of years. This city is not set up as centrally as other Europena cities. The Dom or cathedral takes up one çenter'and is clearly 3 distinct styles. Check out the pics. We shopped and walked and stopped for a drink. We bought amazing gingerbread ( you are welcome, Mom) and snacked on buttery sweet rolls. Ever had Pennsylvania Dutch butter cake? THey are almost like that. Yum!!We talked to everyone and found a very old fashioned local German restaurant. The food was amazing. Lisa had steak with bernaise. I had roast pork. Man, these people can cook.
It was a crazy travel day. The train was on the wrong track, the next one required us to make an unplanned switch. Just weird. We took the 9:30 pm train to Eindhoven and got home by midnight.
