I slept well and woke up early to get sorted for the day. I double checked my ticket and accomodation information. As if you can't tell by now, I like to be organized.
The clouds broke and it's a beautiful 10 degrees in Milan. There's a crispness in the air but it's refreshing. The full day of rain makes you appreciate the warmth of the sun even more. I just wish it was like this yesterday.
I quickly made my way to the train station without any problems via thr Metro. My train leaves at 11:35 and I wanted to get here in good time. It's best to be early than late!
This train is nicer than the others. It's not high speed though. I will be taking one of those from Florence to Naples later this month.
There is a little girl on the train that's about 10 years old. It's great hear her talking in Italian and seeing the things she is doing. She was finishing some school work, then coloured and now she is playing with her DS. Seems the same as the kids I teach.
I arrived in Venice. It was a little tricky to find my way to the hostel, but I did thanks to the GPS on my phone. It's quite beautiful here but way too many tourists.
I dropped my stuff off and started to make my way to the sites. The streets are so narrow and random. I am surprised I even found the my first stop at St. Marc's Basilica. Wow. I could not believe the people in the square and around the church. It was remarkable. The church was spectacular. Mosaic golden tile murals filled the roof tops.
I took a walk along the waterfront and made my way into the streets again looking for the Rialto Bridge. I found it quickly and was stunned at the people. I took a few pictures and headed back. By this time three hours had already passed.
I wanted to challenge myself and see if I could get back to the hostel without any navigational assistance. I did make a few wrong turns and stumbled upon some pleasant sights. I am proud to say I'm no as directionally challenged as I though. I made it back!!
I have to charge my phone and then I'll head out to see the streets at night.
Q17
What kind of taxis do they have in Venice.
