Phew!! I'm here on the train now!
I arrived at the station early to avoid any line ups. I had to validate my train pass before I could use any of my train tickets.
A man from England asked me a question about the train number. Thankfully he did because he told me to validate my ticket in one of the yellow machines. He said one of his friends had a fine of over 100 euro!!! The yellow machines were not working with my ticket. I tried 3 of them. With the help of a stranger, he helped me find a green machine and validated my ticket with that one. It seemed to work so hopefully I did it correctly. Then the man then asked me for money. I appreciated his helps so I gave him some loose change totaling about 1 euro. He then started to follow me asking for 2 more euros for his wife. I just told him I needed it and kept moving to my train.
We will see when the attended comes by if all is ok with my ticket. I am not sure why they don't have signs posted telling people to validate their tickets. How would a traveler know he had to do that? I couldn't find any attendant around to ask either. Yes, I'm a little anxious!
The agent passed by and punched my card. Everything is fine. What a relief. All that worrying for nothing.
The train is near the ocean. It's cool to see the water, fields, mountains and forests as the train goes through the countryside. It's not a high speed train so the total length of the ride about 5 hours. I will be lucky to go on one of those trains again. I believe it's from Florence to Naples.
I must apologize for not posting any pictures yet. I don't have access to a computer so I cannot upload them to this site. I will be able to do it from my aunt's house this week. I have several pictures to share so please be patient.
This entry will be long. I have no access to the Internet on this train. My phone has been wiped clean because of my situation the other night, so I have no games or songs to pass the time. Hopefully I can get that sorted out at my aunt's house too!!
I passed several train stations, even Pisa. I'm hoping to make a day trip to there to see the Tower of Pisa when I go to Florence. I was told its a quick trip and there is nothing really to see but the tower.
We keep going through these long tunnels with glimpses of the ocean and rocky coastline as we exit and entry the next tunnel. I'm assuming we are going through mountains.
After a maze of small streets and poor street signs I made it to my hostel. The gentleman was very nice. He didn't speak English but I could manage. I'm glad I have a private room tonight. The bed is big and comfy. Hope to sleep well!! I am going to venture put and see if I can make sense of all the streets.
I will report more on what I did tomorrow.
Q5
This is a special question for one of my students.
There are several rail companies in Italy. Name one.
