Kobe headed off with the Ryans at 6am for the Cu Chi tunnels. Let Grandy and Poppy sleep in and then up to breaky.
Got a taxi to the War Remnants Museum and learnt and saw much about the history of wars in Vietnam. In particular the war with America. It was very confronting and the photos were both upsetting and fascinating in a macabre way. Museum closed for lunch before we were all the way through but we had seen enough. Walked back to hotel and stopped for a bite to eat. Not the most appetizing meal we have had.
Back to hotel for a lie down before heading out for New Years Eve. Did a long 'Facetime' session with the Rankins as Jessi left today for her year in the UK.(miss you Jessi), and the got to also see Sandi and the girls and wish them all a Happy New Year. Grandy and Poppy enjoyed seeing everyone. Kobe not back till 5pm so big day for him but he had lots of fun.
Bit of a mix up with the pick up time to get us down to the Bonsai Dragon boat cruise but finally got down in time. Awesome boat and we had a wonderful cruise with dinner and entertainment on the Saigon River looking at all the lights of Ho Chi Mihn City. Food was great and so was the entertainment. Kobe even got up to play one of the instruments when they asked for a volunteer. The magician who came to our table was incredible. Docked back at 8.45pm
Unfortunately our driver to pick us up at the end was an hour late so we sat about the dock, however we realized why when he drove us back to hotel. The streets were packed. Hundreds of thousands go to the river to watch the fireworks for midnight. The drive back took an hour ( normally about 10 minutes maximum). It was the biggest traffic jam we have ever seen! Of course then too late to go out with the Ryan's ( they had headed to bed as we were 2 hours late) and so we went upstairs at our hotel at 11pm for cocktail party the hotel put on for it's guests for New Years.
Lots more food and drink and the staff all there including the Managing Director who were all up dancing with us. Did the countdown ( funniest ever as they got the numbers a bit backwards) and then danced the night away. Lewis up dancing and many of the young staff girls trying to dance with the boys. Kobe was a hit with some of his dance moves as was Grandy who not only gestured to some poor man to dance with her ( she said it was to Wayne) however some old boy got up to dance with her. Then when the Managing Director went to do 'cheers' with her, Grandy had an empty glass so she went to take his - hilarious - guess you had to be there!
Finally hit the hay at 1am.
