To Vietnam and back
Caught a bus ironically called a sleeper from Hanoi, however it didn't stop at Dong Hoi where we wanted to get off so we ended up four hours further south in Hue. Fortunately this meant that we caught up with Shelley and Luke who we had met previously on our Halong Bay trip. Hue is nice, not as touristy as Hanoi - did some sightseeing and took a trip down Perfume River. Did some hard bargaining at the market for a set of chopsticks and found a great place to eat and drink called Mandarin Cafe.
Now in Hoi An we have found the cheapest fresh beer for just 4000 dong (16p) and an excellent street restaurant (if you can call a bench that) owned by Mr Hung. We have tried the local specialities including Cau Lau and Wonton. Yesterday we tok a trip to a local village 15km outside of Hoi An with local Mr Phong. He took us to his home where his wife cooked us a feast (check out the pictures) and then gave us a tour of the village. It was an amazing experience as it takes you to the real vietnam and how people live. We tried tiny snails fresh from their shells as women ate them on the streets, bitter cucumber, rice wine and Lyds got given some Betel Nut, which she decided not to try but to keep instead. He also explained the history of Vietnam to us and the part he played in it and the war.
Tomorrow morning we are leaving for Danang where we are going to catch a train.......... somewhere (to be decided).
