Last entry we were heading towards Danang.. exact location not known. That turned out to be Quy Nhon, which is in the opposite direction. Quy Nhon didn't have much to offer although we took a little day trip over the mountains to find Bai Bau, which is a nice little beach with friendly locals who shared their rice wine and tried our suncream (apparently a new concept).
After enjoying the first train journey we took the Reunification Express again to take us the scenic route down to Nha Trang. Somehow arriving into new places never runs smoothly for us and Nha Trang was no exception. The first two rooms our hotel showed us both had visible bedbugs strolling round the sheets waiting for a foriegn feast so we had to trek across town to find another.
Whilst in Nha Trang we hired a bike for a couple of days to explore a bit off the beaten track. We found Ba Ho Falls and sought out the mud baths a bit closer to town (check the photos). We refound Dorothy and John, a lovely couple from Queensland whom we had met previously on the train down to Quy Nhon (apologies for the umbrella).
Mui Ne Beach was our final stop before Saigon/Ho Chi Minh City. It's a haven for Kite and Windsurfers, with its own weather system that ensures sun and wind all year round. Apparently we were there in the low season, but you wouldn't have guessed. We stayed next door to a kitesurfing school on the beachfront. Severe winds over our four day stay didnt provide an oppertunity to try it out. Our neighbours Reetta and Lauri introduced us to a lethal combination of Vietnamese Dalat wine and "get pysed" which is Finnish for "cheers" - que sore head Dave.
We are now in our guesthouse, which will serve as home for the rest of our volunteer project. Have met some good people and we look forward to the rest of our stay now the resident rat is at rest. We have overkilled the tourism in our first weekend here by visiting the very graffic War Remnants Museum and crawling through the hot Cu Chi tunnels.
We start work tomorrow so will let you all know how it goes xx
