An early start was upon us the next morning as we were to be touring The Great Ocean Road - unfortunately we had probably chosen the cloudiest day since us being in Oz to take the bus tour. The day began at 7am and it was quite a while until we reached the GOR and even though we were dressed for Siberian weather conditions the views were still quite spectacular. We saw the infamous 12 Apostles and visited a koala retreat where we saw many of them sleeping in the wild, lounging around in trees at close quarters, and when they are not napping they are surprisingly quick across the ground - they'd give Linford Christie a run for his money, although not quite as well endowed! On the journey back we got chatting to a fellow Spurs fan who was more interested talking about soccer then some of the wonderful sights we had seen - who were we to argue! On our return to the hostel we were just in time for a free cheese and wine evening, and the word free is a word we've learned never to refuse whatever it may be!Our week in St Kilda had nearly passed and Friday night was to be our last night with Liza and Sandra as they were leaving the next day - we're not quite sure what it is with us but we seem to attract crazed stalkers wherever we go! As our fully inebriated evening came to an end it was time to say our farewells and we've learnt by now goodbyes are never easy and Gav began to shed a tear once again (although Chris believes this one may have been genuine).Saturday arrived with us eager to watch our first game of Aussie Rules Football (AFL) at the super large MCG in the heart of the city - we believe Chris was going for the sport itself (and half time pies!) while Gav was just there for men in short shorts and muscular physiques! We made our way to the stadium surrounded by a mixture of fans and upon arrival to the ground we were totally overwhelmed by the vastness of the stadia. Then it was time for us to make the decision of what teams we were going to be supporting, and with Collingwood v Carlton being one of the fiercest rivalries in the AFL our decision of which team to plump for was like a judge having to make a choice between Michael Jackson and Rose West for the custody of a child! The attendance was in excess of 80,000 and we sat up high in the gods surrounded by both sets of fans soon getting engrossed in the action and chanting away in true English hooligan style! Passions ran high with claret being shed on the pitch and even higher in the stands as Chris's team (Carlton) slumpt to a 119 - 95 defeat to Gavs team (Collingwood). Go on the Pies!!Our sad final day was upon but nothing would spoil this day as we were visiting Ramsey Street and the set of Neighbours. We set off early afternoon to the street and were amazed to find out how small it was and after a wander around the street taking pictures of the Kennedy's pad, Harolds house and Timmings abode we headed back into St Kilda to meet another "star"/alcoholic. We prayed for Mrs K or Harold but got third best Dr Darcy Tyler. He chatted for a while and being such an A lister we had to get his autograph, but after only a few seconds of speaking to Gav something was telling Chris that they may have met before as Darcy signed his card "with lots of love" and proceeded to call him a f*****!   Â
The moment we had both dreaded for so long had arrived and it was time to pack our still very much over loaded bags and say goodbye to the wonder that had been Australia and our fabulous east coast adventure. It was the hardest goodbye of all but the fantastic memories will be with us forever..................
