When reaching Melbourne after a gruelling and tiresome 17 hour journey, the door to the bus opened and the goose bumps already began to appear on our arms and legs, although it was still probably 20 degrees but a lot chillier than what we were used to! We checked into our new hostel which was situated just outside the city in a place called St Kilda. After equipting ourselves with hats and scarfs to combat the almost sub zero temperatures, we headed out into the city directly into Federation Square in the heart of Melbourne to begin our pub hunt. After an unsuccessful search and a good walk around the city we decided to cut our loses and head back to St Kilda and the old faithful bottle shop for a delightful evening sampling the fine Melbournian goon - and how fine it was to! As you can see from the photos with random old people we cant remember much of what happened!
The next day began with a certain air of excitement floating around our dorm as four of us were going to the "Neighbours" trivia night that evening - we could barely contain ourselves! After 7 weeks of travelling the east coast the moment we had both been longing for had finally arrived. The days build up was spent checking out the sights of St Kilda including its many bakeries which it is famous for (Chris was in heaven!), the Luna Park which hosts the oldest working rollercoaster in the world (to be honest its a slow scenic railway!) and its beautiful beach. On returning to the hostel that evening to ready ourselves for the festivities that were to follow we bumped into Liza and Sandra (from Sydney) as they were in town for a few days as well. Being Dutch and German respectively they had been deprived of Neighbours as children and the likes of Lou and Harold - so they didnt have a clue why we were so excited! The evening began well as we settled down with our pints and assembled our 8 person team, "Bash the Bishops". The night opened with a vocal and acoustic performance from Libby Kennedy (surprisingly not that bad!) the quiz then began with the questions at us at a rapid pace and us being able to answer them equally as fast (mainly Chris and Gav of course!). It was then time to meet the "stars"/alcoholics - Dr Karl (even more handsome in the flesh!), Janelle (whoever she is!), Connor (one too many pies fat boy!) and the leg end that is Madge (possibly with the onset of parkinsons and alziemers!). Then the moment Bash the Bishops had been waiting for - the results! All our hopes had all but vanished as fourth, third and second were read out but to our surprise we were crowned victorious and a deafening roar came from the table as we all bombarded the stage to collect our $200 - which was promptly spent on beer and Jagerbombs for the team! Still rejoicing in our glory it was time for Dr Karls band to play a set, and boy did they rock! The night was then partayed away singing along to the doc!
With sore heads the next morning we awoke bleary eyed but still excited as Gav was off to see James Morrison with Liza and Chris was off for tight arse Tuesday at the cinema with Sandra to watch Spiderman. All was going swimmingly well until Gav got to the door of the theatre to find James had cancelled due to a sore throat - he's more of a poof the Gav! Fortunately Liza was there to wipe away Gavs streaming tears as once again he cried! However, luckily for Chris the cinema was still standing so he could still enjoy watching a man in tight lycra jump around for 2 hours with an abundance of food on his lap! Â
An early start was upon us the next morning as we were to tour The Great Ocean Road...........to be updated shortly..........  Â
