Hey Everyone!!
I'm (Matt) gonna write the 1st half of this amazing blog and Tots will write the rest. So we've finally made it to an internet cafe to update you on our exploits in the land of Oz. Here we are in Cairns and surprise surprise it is raining - again! We're not complaining too much because since we last wrote a blog we have done and seen some awesome things -Â which if the machine wants to work we should be able to share.
Anyway... we have been travelling for 2 whole months and we will be home in just under that - so if anyone is missing us don't worry not long now :-) So I suppose I should actually tell you what we have been doing. I have the pleasure of telling you what has happened in Hervey Bay, a night on a Ranch in the middle of nowhere (Kroombit) and Airlie (no) Beach!
After Rainbow we moved to the outskirts of Hervey Bay to a nice hostel. The main aim here was to chill out and check out Fraser Island - which we achieved. Fraser Island for those who don't know is the largest Sand Island in the world - and you get what it says on the tin a huge sand dune with spectacular views, lots of dingos and a remarkable amount of fresh water oh and a rainforest. We being cheapos only went for the day but saw a lot including - the wreck, Lake McKenzie, Eli Creek, the coloured sands and central station. The highlights were the rainforest trek which was beautiful and the truly spectacular Lake McKenzie which I had the pleasure of swimming in (Tots who had braved the largest bungee in the world couldn't cope with the cold water).
Next we spent two days on the Oz bus which was broken up nicely with a night spent on a ranch pretending to be cowpeople. Here we were able to participate in some very interesting activities and eat and drink lots. I tried my hand at some shooting (I am proud to say that I got 5/5 hits), and then we had a go at goat rodeo. Here the aim was to reinact the branding of a goat. We split into teams of three (Tots, Joss our new found friend and myself) and got going. Well as the pictures prove I did all the work - chasing and tipping the goat and Tots cautiously branding the animal. This was hilarious and proved that girls and goats are not a good combo! After all this excitement we ate our first roast dinner and drank copious amounts of Giggle Juice (sparkling milk based wine - or goon) and went on the mechanical bull. However too much goon proved too much for me and I lasted all of 2 seconds.
We were on the road again and spent a whole day travelling to Airlie. This is famous for two things 1. the party scene and 2. the lagoon. There have been many dubious stories concerning the two, and the lagoon has now been dubbed (sorry mum) the Shagoon! We had 4 nights here and spent the time mostly going out partying with Joss and some mental locals we met. We also took a boat trip to the Whitsundays which truly are a sight. The highlights have to be snorkelling the great barrier reef and spending an hour on the worlds best beach - White haven beach. It wasn't all just relaxation as our boat decided to set on fire which added a bit of excitement to the whole trip. Anyway I'll pass over to Tots (this surely is going to be the worlds longest blog entry!!)
So from Airlie, where we had some great times we moved onto Magnetic Island for a night. This was a fabby surprise as we thought the stopover was in Townsville (a bit of a rubbish looking town) but as we jumped on the bus we discovered we could catch the ferry and spend the night in a wonderful hut overlooking the sea and beach! We had a brilliant afternoon on Magnetic Island but then it was up early again to catch the bus to Mission Beach.Â
We spent 2 nights in Mission Beach which didnt really have a huge amount to do (except a skydive that we decided we were too poor to do), so luckily we had a lovely hostel to spend our time. The pool was its main attraction as it had a balance log across the middle and add a couple of noodles and you have a gladiator fest! It was so much fun! Haha! However we found out after the 2 days that maybe we had been hitting each other rather too hard, as the bruises prove to show! We also spent one eve watching Notting Hill!
From here we have moved on to Cairns. There is not much to do here either (Matt left me the less interesting places to write about!) So here we have done the worlds longest blog! Also yesterday we decided to go to the cinema and saw Pirates 3. Highly recommend you watch the first 2 before you see this one otherwise you will have no idea what is going on for the entire film (as we discovered!) Wonderful film though - def recommend you all see it! (If you haven't already!)
Missing you all very much and we promise to be in touch soon (depending on what the internet is like as we travel between Brisbane and Sydney!) All our love xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
PS: Just so you know the water in Lake McKenzie was freezing (it is winter here!) and I still to this day don't know what made me do the bungee!
