"Masungu' is a word we hear constantly in Malawi. It means white. We have now adopted it and call all the whites that we see a Masungu!
Woke up to yet another crappy wet day but decided we needed to do something so we trekked to a croc farm. On the way the heavens opened (as we walked down the beach) and we spent a while chatting to locals trying to sell us more stuff under a beach shelter.
We got bored and the rain wasn't slowing, so we put on the plastic macs (again taa mom!) and found our way walking through hotel parks, roads, fields and paths that were now running like rivers. We had to submerge our feet into deep water to get across the fields to get to the croc farm.
Paid less than 2 quid each for the tour around the farm where we got to see thousands of crocs of different ages in various pens. Oldest ones we saw were about 50 years old and were hefty monsters! Nearly ruined my camera in the rain trying to get snaps of them!
One of the big males shared a pen with 8 females for breeding. Lucky bloke....
Also found out that at this farm they sell all the skins and teeth to markets all over the worl like Germany, France, Italy and China. Thanks to Jack's cheek, we got two small teeth for free but I'm struggling to find mine now...
On the walk back, the guys tried to hassle us to buy huge hippo teeth necklaces and croc teeth but we are souvenired out. Then Jack decided to give in and buy a big croc tooth for 500 and a pair of boxers (or something like that).
Had to bring out the long jump on the beach to avoid being washed into the sea and then walked along the water as it was warmer than being on the sand!
Couldn't resist the same tea and then joined Johann for some drinks. Bought a dodgy bottle of local stuff which is ridiculously strong. It cost less than 2 quid and Johann got all the Sprite to mix it with. I paid 200 for some wood so we could have a drink on the beach with a nice fire and the locals playing the drums. Turned out to be a right laugh (even though I missed the Spurs game!), and Giraffe turned up, wasted.
Tried some of the finest Malawian offers, and drank the booze between 6 of us. Giraffe provided plenty of entertainment, rolling around, shouting, trying to beat the drums and just generally being a drunken mess.
