Greetings! Well yesterday I slept in until 2pm as I was shattered but made the most of the afternoon by taking a tuk-tuk driven by a very friendly man called Sarian. He drove me to many of the famous temples ncluding Ph Trom where the jungle has overgrown many parts of it (and where tomb raider was filmed). The place really does have an indiana jones feel to it. Then Sarian took me Phnom Bakeng which is a very busy temple on top of a very hot walk to the top of the hill. From here I, along with hundreds of Japanese tourists with cameras bigger than the small temple doorways, waited for the sun to set over the surrounding lakes and fields. Very deep red sun!
Then it was back to the hostel for a few beers for 30p each!
Up very early this morning... 4.30am to be exact, to catch the sun rise at Angkor Wat. I arrived when i was still dark and nobody about, so I got explore this huge temple alone with a torch as the only night. A really breath taking experience and very spooky as corridors went as far as my torch could reach.
Then I met back up with the Japanese tourists to catch the sunrise over Angkor Wat, which was very spectacular. Then we went for some breakfast in the form of egg fried rice and me Sarain chatted about his and my family. His english was hit and miss and if he didn't understand he would just laugh as if I had cracked a joke, so I laughed with him to ake out it was a hilarious joke.
Sarain then took me to about another 15 temples. Some of them I was the only person there, and although maybe not as impressive as the large temples, the tranquility made up for it! We then went for a ride through the countryside and through the dried up rice paddies (dry season here). We also stopped off at the petrol station. When I say pertol station I mean a bottle of petrol in a Gordon Gin glass bottle for $1.5 . The whole ride cost me only $20 for 7 hours.
Now back at the hostel just chilling out, having a swim and reading my book. On to Phnom Penh tomorrow for a grueling 7 hour bus.
