Memphis was amazing. We ate like kings. Drank plenty and made a friend with one of the Justin Beiber entourage. (Bieber was performing the following night). I don't know how to spell his surname...
While Mel had her hair cut I sat at the bar in the Peabody Hotel at about 5pm and I saw the ducks that live in an apartment in the hotel and spend their days on the fountain. (Sounds like quite a good deal to me for ducks). Just ducks really so not sure why everyone went mad for it. Imagine an mass of people surrounding Stevenage duck pond. That was all it was to me.
Anyway, 4 drinks later and Mel comes back with less hair. We sit in a restaurant near the hotel and eat more amazing food. This time Italian, and again seafood. I'm sure it would of been the equivalent of an high end restaurant in London. But this time...I we could afford it! Thanks exchange rate! They also had our new favourite wine. I dread the think of the cost of this wine back home.
Back to Beale street and we remember that it's Halloween by the ever increasing amount of people in costume. Lots more American measures of rum and another blues band later (see the videos and photos that will be uploaded) and we are out on the street and I can't resist asking people if I can take their photo. Some great costumes and everything seems as though its taken a lot more seriously over here for Halloween.
On the way back to the hotel we some how, through a drunk haze, met a caterer of about my age who went by the name of Matty. Instant rapport. He wrote his own music. Likes whiskey, of which we drank together and most importantly, he thinks Justin Bieber is...well politely put...completely awful!! You can see us all pretending to beat up a friendly homeless person who joined us unwelcomed at the end of the Memphis 2 photo album. Overall, a great night. (Apart from falling out of bed in slow motion while trying to cling on and then being sick...in a toilet).
The next day an incredible hangover that meant we left Memphis about 3 hours later than planned. This in turn lead to us getting to the log cabin in the dark. Which wasn't too bad at all and after trying to call the check in desk while sitting at the wrong entrance gate, we arrived. So peaceful. Next morning we were greeted with the sight of the lake. See photos.
Didn't manage to ride the horses as no one was there and there phone number seemed to only work when they wanted it to. So we walked through some national park beauty and saw more chipmunks and squirrels than birds of prey. Even through we had walked to the 'birds of prey nature trail'. Oh well, still a lovely place.
Now we are in Montgomery, Alabama and have been for about an hour at time of writing.
