So yup yup happy Monday from the Himalayas peeps! Its been ages so thought I'd get all aggressive on the key board for a couple hours! A lot's happened since eating of that banana leaf, checked out loads of temples and kicked it for a while in Mysore checked out the Maharaja's Palace, and picked a fight with one of his lion statues, what to do? Had to take it out on something, the place I was staying at was complete carnage, with the locals hitting the whiskey at 10 in the morning and going at it like rock stars (who could do such a thing ?!, Mmmmm) until kick out time! Moved on to Hampi afterwards, loads of koppies and ruins all over the place banana plantations and a whole bunch of chilling out and cruising! Met a good group of peeps and found the local damn and tried to make fishing, lots of water and app. Fish but no luck think we should have used bait instead of trying to knock the out with fishing hooks, but you don't try, you don't learn!, swam round a bit and found a monster rock to do some rock jumping off faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! What a beast!Heaps of people going through to hampi was kind of like another goa but in a jungle… people coming through. Times tickin and indias heaps bigger than I thought, so got skates on and headed to Rajasthan jump on a camel and take out the dessert, but not before stopping at Udaipur to check out the hotel that was in the Bond movie Octop**** Other than that the town was like a huge maze of cobbled roads, got lost a few times on the first day, before lunch! Also went on a city tour with Mon, from Uk who insisted we take a rikshaw with someone who had been pestering her the day before, so cool we found him, the dude with the dodgey eyes, hit a lot of the sites, got to see an amusing puppet show and got to go to the Maharajas old house on the top a a hill over looking the city, good spot!On the way back into town somehow the word whiskey dropped into conversation, and the driver came to life telling us how much he loves whiskey and has a bottle to start the day, as well as having some at one of the stops we made. Recons he drives better after a quick toot, this would have been almost bearable, if he wasn't turned back and looking at us while explaining how bullet proof he was while flying through town and somehow missing bikes, dogs cows, people and whatever else would be on a typical road in India! We couldn't seem to get him to get his eyes back on the road for longer than it takes to change gear! "What if the police catch you?" one of us asked, he explained that it was almost impossible, because incase of that, he always has a perfume soaked cotton wool behind his ear, pretty fool proof huh? What a fruit loop!
Got the bus to Jaselmere that evening and arrived mid morning the next day in front of this huge sand castle, yup, its desert tike baby! In a couple days was on a dopey camel cruising through the dessert, yee ha! There where 8 of us on the first night and 4 on the second, but I'll tell you what after a couple hours on these things and you walking like a gunslinger for sure! What was amazing is that at every stop there was some dude running over the dunes with a shoulder bag of ice cold drinks and BEER! Doesn't get much better that that, but where did he appear from? Who cares! Got back and there were a crew of us, just in time to celebrate Holy, a festival where everyone gets covered in coloured powder and water, complete carnage! The whole of India just goes loco! Check out the pics!
Shortly afterward head Amritsar, home of the Golden Temple, very friendly place, walking around the temple on a sunny day can be hazardous! Was like being snow blind, sunlight reflecting from the golden walls, off the marble floors, the white walls, and even the moat around the temple! Had my sunnies handy but didn't see anyone else using them so thought I could manage with out, NOT! They also had a temple mess hall, communal with steel trays, just like prison… apparently! Decided to get involved with the fierce combat and what seemed to be an up and coming aggressive national sport, yeah, you probably guessed it, the washing up, these dudes don't mess around!
Now I'm in Dharamshala, home of the Dalai Lama, I arrived last night from Dalhousie, a bit further up in the Himalayas, where there was heaps of good trekking, quiet and the seasons for trekking is starting now cos the snow is starting to melt, but its still pretty chilly!
