Had my first experience of cheap Oz Goon last night so felt a bit worse for wear when we got woken again this morning at 5:30am. We watched an amazinf sunrise come up over Urulu and then headed back to the base of the rock. My mind was made up for me about climbing the rock as it was closed due to high winds at the top (see pic for the proof!!) so we started the 10 km base walk instead. When you stand right at the base and look up you feel smaller than an ant, which by the wat there is an least 10,000,000,000,000,000 of in Australia! After learning some of the culture and myth surrounding Urulu it was interesting seeing the various ways in which the roick used to be used, birthing areas for the women, playschools for the kids and social areas for the men. We had good fun walking around the rock and got some great photos, I think the lack of sleep and long walks had driven us all a bit mad so we were all a bit hyper and had a grat laugh strolling around. Another, long ass, 5 hour sweaty, tiring bus journey back to Alice Springs sees me sitting on my bed again in Toddys writing my journal. Going out with the crew from the tour tonight in Alice so it should be fun. Facing another 26 hours on the Gahn again from tomorrow evening. Heading to Darwin so we should have ample time to recover from the last few very early mornings and boozy nights!
All in all the rock tour was great and I'd defo recommend it, a lot of bussing to and fro and some long walks in 30 degrees of heat but the swim in the water hole, the Kata Tjuta domes and Urulu itself makes it well worth the hours on the bus! Also sleeping out under the amazing nights sky and being able to clearly see the Milky Way, the Big Dipper and shooting stars was an experience not to miss! Although saying that the red dirt in our clothes is going to prove a permanent souvenir of the trip!
