Well, this time away is meant to be a time of discovery about ourselves and we are already learning new things. For instance, I never knew I would rather stick a cocktail stick in my eye, than listen to the incessant screaming of Satan's offspring on the flight from Kuala Lumpur to Auckland in the seat in front of us. For nearly 12 hours this 'child' (translated as demon) cried at its mother, who must have been deaf or dead as she never seemed to notice the ear popping noise coming from her cherub.
Ho hum; it ensured we were overly ecstatic when we arrived in new Zealand. We also met a lovely couple called Steve and Robyn. Both in their fifties, but far from that age in behaviour. The following joke they told us sums up how amusing they are:
Black women around the world are shaving their pubic hair in celebration of Obama winning the election saying, "Read our lips, Bush is gone."
We were given their numbers and address so we could go see them and have a night out.
Now in central Auckland we've booked the first week in a hostel. It does exactly what it says on the tin, which is cool. Auckland's really lovely, but about as busy as Colchester on a Wednesday afternoon. Although the glaring difference is that Auckland has no overweight women wearing boob tubes and leggings. Shame. Amazing how you can get nostalgic over English heritage.
Had a 'Big Breakfast' in a sports bar, in which the word big was a complete understatement. Best. Breakfast. Ever.
Tonight (Sunday) we will be going out to the Globe Bar, which is where all the backpackers meet up. Considering the variety of nationalities here, we're bound to meet some really interesting (or weird) people later. The weirder the better as this blog needs to stay interesting.
