Quote on wall of Cariga's bar: "I took the road less traveled, and now I don't know where the the hell I am!"
Today I took the bus across the island and went to a place called Carribean Inflatables to see if I could get my lifejacket fixed. The gal there, Amy, was very friendly, but her technician was out so I had to leave the jacket there.
I asked her if there was a bar near by where I could wait. Turns out there was this place called Cariga's just a stone throw away but it can't be seen and it's stuck behind a boatyard down a dirt road.
What a place! Completely open except the roof. This bar is my mind's eye of what a stereotypical island bar should be. Emerging from the mangroves, with iguanas crawling up the branches. Very friendly people and everybody has a story to tell.
The place has free WiFi, free self serve coffee that actually tastes good, and 60s/70s rock and roll. I ordered some biscuits and gravy and helped myself to a couple of cups of coffee. I left the bar knowing I was going to come back and spend the afternoon there.
The lifejacket saga has become a complete bust. I must have spent at least 2 hours talking to Amy while I called every possible source of supply for what I needed without any luck.
Finally, I gave up and went back to Cariga's and had a lovely afternoon talking to the locals. No tourists here!
So I finally left about 5pm and caught the bus back to Charlotte Amalie. I met Barry and Mirko and we went back to the boat for dinner.
After dinner, Mirko and I went back ashore to check out the "Circus" which Hubbly Bubbly hosted. All the waitresses were body painted. The highlight of the night was the rasta fire man. This guy was half acrobat and half dancer and completely crazy. He did some amazing things with fire and totally wowed the audience.
We will be cruising back to Coral Bay tomorrow.
