Kiwi Ex – Day 12 – 17th Nov
On our way to Franz Josef we went into the Bushman’s Centre where they farm deer by ridding along beside them on a helicopter and jumping on the deer and tackling them to the ground. They also have possum pie and one of the biggest and hairiest pigs you’ll ever see.
We got to Franz Josef just after lunch and we went paint balling. It was a great laugh but we were covered in bruises after it, mainly due to Frank a Dutch nutter on the bus. That night the hostel bar had karaoke on and Andy singing “That’s Amore” was a huge hit.
The next day we went ice climbing on the glazier. It was fantastic. They kitted us out with all the gear. We were able to climb a vertical face of ice by the end of it using our spikes and ice pics. The weather was terrible. The rain got so bad that it was unsafe to be on the ice any longer and we had to climb down cutting the day short. It was disappointing but the rain had soaked through 5 layers including the provided Gore-text jackets, so was probably for the best.
The next day we headed for Wanaka…
