To be fair this photo IS not where we are. In the internet station I'm at I'm unable to load photos, however the image is close.
From Grimentz, a truly fairytale looking town, we found the local bus shut down so we took a <shortcut> to Zinal, the next town over. hmmmm well we accidently took the high route versus low route and found ourselves on a 3hr hike---the toughest I've ever done in my life up a mountain. The weather was gorgeous. I think it was about 2400' elevation gain. We were looking forward to the cable car down the mountain into Zinal after hiking up to the top--called Sorebois. oooops the cable car was shutdown for the season. hmmmm that means down into the town 2400'. Errrrrr another 3 hrs down and if you do hiking you know down is more challenging than up.
On the hike down our group resolved to stay in Zinal and forgo our reservation at the top of the mountain on the OTHER SIDE of the valley, however we found our other team member in Zinal and he convinced us it was worth it to hike up ANOTHER 4-5 hours for 2300' gain. Ok, that's some serious leg work. And I did it. Whew! Seeing the historic Hotel Weisshorn off in the distance on the open ridge was breathtaking.
