Tuesday 27 May. Day 4.
All was not well with our 2 bedroom apartment. Flyscreens needed repair, non of the 3 TV's worked properly, our bedroom was a freezing 17°C and we could not change the AC, and the clock would not work. While the others went for a walk, Tony presented a list of problems at Reception, and then went for a swim. On return to the room he was met by a team of 5 technicians and maintenance guys fixing the problems. Later in the day we were offered a bottle of (French) Chapagne and nibbles to say "Sorry". We decided to accept the champers and felt much better about the problems.
We explored the Sheraton & Westin Resorts and the shops just outside. Thought that we had found a tourist information booth, but it turned into an offer of FJ$100 off the cost of a Mexican meal at the neighbouring Wyndham Resort. Of course there was a catch. Sit in front of a 90 minute presentationof their timeshare offering. The girls were in favour of going, only Tony was a grump and didn't want to have the hard sell, even if there was a saving of FJ$100 per couple. So we were booked in for 11.00am on Wednesday anyway!
On to the Blue Bulla Bus for a trip to the Marina for a spot of shopping and some lunch. A light supper of Tapas in the Chimes Bar with live music and a few dances ended the day.
Wednesday 28 May, Day 3
So we fronted up to the timeshare presentation. 2 1/2 hours later we head off with our FJ$100 vouchers but thankfully with our wallets intact.
The rest of the day was just a chill time. The girls checked out one of the jewelry stores in the Sheraton lobby as we had a voucher for a free gift. Jo scored a fancy soap. Then back for some more swimming and a walk. Tony & Alan found the Water Edge swim-up bar at Bulla Time, otherwise known as Happy Hour. Very dangerous!
Dinner was at the aforementioned Mexican Restaurant, which turned out to be a good night and only cost FJ$74 including wine and the biggest slice of chocolate cake I have ever seen.
Thursday 29 May, Day 4.
Another day of swimming and relaxing. We were glad the we had these few days to sdjust to the 4 hour time difference with Perth. We could get up as late as we wished.
We returned to the Water Edge pool bar for Bula Hour with the girls and then moved down next door to the Westin Meke Bar for more Happy Hour cocktails and fire dancing, this time the show included fire wielding girls. Dinner next to the ocean.
Friday 30 May Day 5.
Today we were up early for a 7.00am start with a pick-up and 1 hour transfer south to the Sigatoka River where we enjoyed a jet boat tour up the river, followed by a visit to a farming village in the Sigatoka Valley. The valley is the main vegetable growing area of Fiji. No hats to be worn in the village, and ladies to wear a sarong. A very friendly guide took us around the village and we were greeted with many happy "Bullas" from the residents and the pre-school kids. Then on to the community centre for a kava ceremony to make us members of the village. We all drank kava and introduced ourselves. Tony was asked to explain what a geologist was. There was some interest when he said that he had been to Fiji before to visit the Vatoukola Gold Mine on the northern side of the island.
What was supposed to be a half day tour ended up being quite long. We got back on the jet boat and enjoyed a bath as the spray went everywhere during a bunch of 360° turns. Kathy was smiling after 5 spins. Back on the bus and return to Denarau Island for a last night dinner at the Flying Fish Restaurant
