We picked up our rental car from Avis at the Munich train station early in the morning. It took us two hours to go to the car rental agency pick up the car and get back to our hotel which was a total distance of about five blocks. They gave me a six speed stick shift. I couldn't get the car into reverse without going back to the agency in the train station and getting instructions. Jeez!
But we eventually got on the road to Prague. It was a beautiful trip,
reminding us of France of old. Ignoring the freeway, we traveled from little town to little town. The road lined with what looked to be aspen and pine trees.
We stopped at one place near the Czech border called Furth im Wall that was hooked on dragons. We surmised by the number of bars and restaurants that it was a go to place similar to Leavenworth, Washington.
Mary stopped two hundred yards over the Czech border to play the slots at a casino. Before entering we had to provide them with our passports which had all of our personal information. I thought at the time this wasn't a really bright idea to give a Czech Casino employee all of our personal information. By Monday, I'm sure we will own several timeshare resorts in Thailand and South America. Oh, by the way, Mary lost 50 Euros as fast as butter melts in July in Houston.
We got to Prague at 5:30 pm. Yea, rush hour. My god, there are more Pragonians than there are fleas on a dog's back! After checking into our hotel which was around the corner from a dead end street we headed to a local bar for a drink to raise a glass to our GPS without which we never would have found the hotel. Never!
The waitress said that a week ago 21 people died in the Czech Republic
after drinking wood alcohol. The government responded by halting the sale of any alcohol with an alcoholic content in excess of 20% as a safety precaution. My question was, "Only 21?" So, no Martini tonight. It's beer and wine until we get back into Germany!
The Griswald's summer vacation continues.......
