9/1/09 The plan today had been to head to Waterloo, but as waking up really wasn´t working we headed to southern Brussels instead - to some royal parkland? - which turned out to be very beautiful and enjoyable. Today was also our first time trying Belgian waffles, from an ice cream van, which were superbly tastey.
8/1/09 We planned to head to the Atomium (a large 50´s construction in the shape of an iron atom?) with the to kiwis we had met this morning, however waking proved difficult and so when we did finally wake it was 10.30. Emma and I decided we would walk to "la Basilique" church - an impressive sight from afar, but grotty and 60´s within with a dreadful nativity exhibition. From there we could get a potantialy great view of Brussels, and hopefully we could spot the Atoneum. Due to mist the plan failed somewhat, and the view was somewhat impaired. We decided to get directions and a better map, which, after an hours walking, led us to the Atomium... which was closed! The return journey went much quicker, as we went by the cheap and efficent tram. That evening we decided, as on friday would be an early night, to head to "Delerium" a bar offering over 1000 beers - and a great night it was too (if somewhat hurtfull). My advice to all those readin - go drinking in Belgium!
7/1/09 Awoke today in moderate hangover pain. we had the night before met a nice couple of kiwis and a couple of irish chaps with whom we decided to experience good 9% belgium beer (damn good too mind). visited the EU today which was a moderate dissappointment (especially as we couldn't look around) but otherwise had a good walk around. generally a quiet day of recuperation and as little spending as possible (to make up for last night). luckily the kiwis know berlin quite well and have given us a few good tips, can't wait for berlin now.
6/1/09 Arrived yesterday in brussels, to find our sleeping room mates (americans that dont seem to get up, nice enough though)! went on a few ganders - bloody cold mind (-10) - and went to the fine art museum, the Palais de justice and a very nice church near our hostel (spectacular stained glass). oh and we've successfuilly got our tickets to Germany!
