Meeting the other volunteers at Heathrow airport was such a relief - there was lots of last minute chatting about what we brought, and what we didn't, what we are looking forward to and what we are totally nervous about, and of course how about how hard all the goodbyes have been. The flight was a bit rocky, with plenty of turbulance to keep our stomachs churning along the way... but and the views going over France, then Spain and North Africa at sunset were absolutely stunning!
Finally we landed in Accra, where we were met and welcomed by the heat and scorching temperatures, even at 11 o' clock at night! The lovely VSO staff met us at the airport, and took us to our hotel where we will stay for the week whilst we undergo our In Country Training. By the time we arrived here and checked in we were all truly exhasuted and ready for a good nights sleep.
I can say I did not expect to wake up this morning and look out of my window to see a swimming pool!!! We have got buffet breakfasts, beautiful sunny skies (no dreaded dust as of yet), air-con, hard but comfy beds, loungers by the pool, and of course we do have a lot of training to get through, but I think I definitely plan to make the most of this luxury whilst I can!
