Since we last posted on Thursday, we have travelled north from Auckland to Whangarei. On Friday we travelled to Parakai Springs via a twisty and foresty road called Scenic Drive - we did a short nature walk at a forest in Arataki, saw a 700 year old kauri tree with a 7m girth and drove to a black sand beach at Karekare. After we left Scenic Drive, we took a short detour to Muriwai Beach where Dom ate a huge icecream cone (chocolate & coconut ripple with mint smash) and I had a little sorbet lolly! At Parakai Springs, we visited their natural hot water pools before we left the campsite - they were about 40 degrees centigrade & a bit too hot for our liking! Yesterday (Saturday) we travelled from Parakai Springs to Whangarei Heads and stayed at a lovely beach campsite overlooking the water and watched the sunset - for lunch, we both had pizza at a cafe in Mangawhai, and Dom was happy to help me finish my GF one! It was a very scenic drive with lots of high views of trees, greenery and the sea. We had changed our route as we wanted to travel to Bay of Islands but after several hours we decided it was too far. Today we are travelling south to Waiwera.
